Poperinghe. Raining. Rifle inspection after breakfast. Clear up billets and get ready to march off after dinner. March up through Keninghelst and St Eloc about 9 miles. Raining all the time. In dugouts just outside Voormezeele.

How strange to read the name Voormezeele knowing that, almost three years later on the 2nd August 1918, my grandfather Allan Ninnis was killed whilst on patrol in Scottish Wood, only two or three hundred yards West of the same village.
